Referring to the sugar content in a finished wine. A dry wine by definition has no fermentable sugar left. The winemaking definition of dry is less than 2g/L of residual sugar.

Referring to the sugar content in a finished wine. A dry wine by definition has no fermentable sugar left. The winemaking definition of dry is less than 2g/L of residual sugar. Known as Trocken in Germany or Sec in France. It should be noted that wines labelled with the German synonym trocken often still have a few grams of residual sugar left in them to balance the higher acidity of the wines.

Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 2019

As always this 100% single-quinta wine is drawn from Noval’s own vines. There are three core parcels, all near the winery—the terraces directly surrounding the winery in Pinhão, the vines in the Roncão Valley and a parcel overlooking the Douro River.  Each year, the blending proportions for the Vintage Port will vary depending on the vagaries of the vineyard. Check out Burghound's review! Ponsot works a superb 0.6-hectare, old-vine parcel in this renowned vineyard with an average age of nearly 50 years. The site is planted at 12,000 vines per hectare. Ponsot’s vines are at the very top of the vineyard, in line with the top of Les Amoureuses and the bottom of LeMusigny. An ultra-floral inflected nose speaks of spicy dark berry fruit aromas laced with hints of earth, game and again, a smoky hint. The sleek, intense and beautifully refined larger-scaled flavors possess a beguiling texture while exuding a bracing salinity on the firm, youthfully austere and well-balanced finale.
