There is beauty here. Richness and solid red mid-palate. Savoury, bloody, there is precision, and more clarity particularly on the finishes. Saline. A hint of musk. Another year or two in bottle should see this in a special place. Blood orange and a little sourness that will pull into line with that year or 2. Hints of pine forest and earthiness. This feels very complete. This wine is part of the growing collection of excellent single-vineyard contrada sites farmed by the talented Giusepp

In the context of fine wine today, this presents incredible value! After tasting the Erste Lager, I can't wait to see what the GG has to offer! "The 2019 Bürgergarten 'Im Breumel' Riesling GG is deep, clear and pure on the aromatic, elegant and mineral nose with its ripe and concentrated aromas of yellow stone fruit. Full-bodied, round and juicy on the silky-textured palate, this is an intense Im Bremen with stewed mirabelle aromas on the finish. Very elegant and with fine tannins, this

The Girolamo Russo 2021 Etna Rosso San Lorenzo is a very exciting wine with so much energy and verve. It opens to lean-bodied concentration with a brilliant ruby shine. The wine shows a long array of wild fruit and tiny berry aromas backed by crushed white pepper and crushed stone. San Lorenzo is one of the most impressive interpretations of Etna. I highly recommend you try and cellar this wine. Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate 96+ Points 12 ha between 700 and 800m altitude, some 100-y

Antoniolo Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2017

Nebbiolo | Italy, Alto Piemonte

The Gattinara Riserva has an entrancing set of aromas and flavours, dark fruits, woody herbs, a little savoury and truffly with a top note perfume to round it out. Fresh yet beautifully developed, flowing with generous fruit of a weightless feel. The mouthfeel has a vitalising grip that sits beautifully with juicy, fine acid. Fantastic drinking! It feels like the 2016 with a little extra pop of energy! That my friends is the 3-peat! Antoniolo's Gattinaras from 2015, 2016 & 2017 are

Antoniolo Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2018

Nebbiolo | Italy, Alto Piemonte

The 2018 Gattinara Riserva is seriously impressive, especially considering it is Antoniolo's entry-level Gattinara. Deep, layered and dynamic in the glass, the 2018 has so much to offer. Macerated red cherry, menthol, licorice, spice, cedar and leather fill out the layers. This is all class—the hidden gem in this range. Antonio Galloni, Vinous 93 Points

Oddero Barbaresco ‘Gallina’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

After 3 days open this came into its own and really shone. The tannins have softened a little, harmonising with the fruit. The wine has resolved to reveal a balance, beauty and perfume that sat shy on first opening! Some serious quality here. Vibrant and energetic Slatey mineral chalky nature. Excellent mouth-coating tannins that are fine with great line and length. Juicy acid ramps up some juicy fruit. Excellent elevage.  The lasting note is fruit, red and fun. That little splash of perfume sp

Fèlsina ‘Fontalloro’ IGT 2017

Sangiovese | Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy

Fontalloro is exquisite in 2017. It is also such a contrast to the Rancia, as the two wines could not possibly be more different. Fontalloro is bright and vibrant, with more sweet red Sangiovese character than the darker Rancia. It is also incredibly delicious now, even though it clearly has the energy to age for many years. The 2017 is one of the finest Fontalloros I can remember tasting. Antonio Galloni

Fèlsina Chianti Classio Riserva DOCG ‘Rancia’ 2016

Sangiovese | Tuscany, Castelnuovo Berardenga UGA

The layering of flavour, tannin in this is excellent! Everyone went nuts on the Fontalloro because of a couple of extra points, wow, this is stunning! Fèlsina have tamed the beast! While this is a powerful wine with incredible depth and length, it is beautifully balanced with excellent grape tannins. It will resolve and build sensuality over the coming years. Dark and incredibly complex there's a vitality to the mouthfeel. If you're going to crack one young give it loads of air in the morning a

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Dark and brooding give it time and watch it blossom! Take the Barolo add 3 more layers for aroma, flavour and tannin. Ramp up the sophistication of the mouthfeel and you're kinda close to where the Villero sits. Dark and brooding give it time and watch it blossom! Roagna Barbaresco Faset 2013

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

In 2013 Roagna began a collaboration with the owner of the historic vineyard Faset in Barbaresco. 2013 was our first year of production. Faset is a historic cru, close to Asili and the Rocche di Barbaresco which produces incredibly elegant wines. This little parcel is South West exposed. Receives the same vineyard work, 60 days […]

Roagna Barolo del Comune di Barolo 2013

Nebbiolo | Italy, Barolo

About Roagna Reading Roagna’s manifesto with my Vigneron’s cap on, it’s clear that they are driven to achieve excellence. In many ways, their approach reminds me of Yarra Yering. Pushing the boundaries with so many aspects of viticulture and winemaking, taking calculated risks, that, when successful, result in what are undoubtedly some of the best […]

Oddero Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Rocche di Castiglione has to be one of my favourite Crus. The wines have incredible harmony, they are just so complete. I haven't had the chance to try this. I have devoured the 2017 Villero from just around the corner. Given Oddero's consistency through their range I'd say you're in for very safe bet here! The 2017 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful wine that captures the natural intensity of the year while maintaining the style of the site. Silky aromatic and wonderfully nua

The first time we’ve managed to squeeze out an allocation of ‘San Francesco’ Saint Francesco. We are very happy! Stepping up to the two single vineyards the depth and length build. Darker and brooding, a slight reductive note washes away to reveal a savoury, truffled layer over those woody herbs. Slatey with mineral acids, sitting marginally prouder than in the other 2 Riservas and tannins of balanced grip. Finishing with lingering fruit. Given a decade the acid resolves this will

One of my favourite Crus. Take the Barolo add 3 more layers for aroma, flavour and tannin. Ramp up the sophistication of the mouthfeel and you're kinda close to where the Villero sits. Awesome side by side with Sordo's Villero. Different in style. Both fantastic wines, you can see the common thread through the two. With fruit from Castiglione Falletto, the 2019 Barolo Villero is graceful and light with a beautifully silky approach to the palate. It is pleasing to the eye, thanks to the

Jesus wept on the Bones of Saint Gratto! The very blood of Christ! Stunning. If I ever made a wine of this caliber I’d retire on the high. Galloni’s note is bang on! The acid-tannin complex steps up again from the ‘standard’ Riserva. The tannins are layered, of depth, fine and long. You can ever so easily lose yourself in the glass! Mind-boggling complexity!
