Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py 2019

Gamay Noir | Morgon, France

I thought Bouland, Thivin & Foillard were good! Yes! This is superb. Right out of the gate I'm blown away. Taken far too long to get these on the list. An exceptional élévage has brought this wine to a place of great harmony, poise, and balance. Not the gangly teenager you see in many a young Beaujolais. This is a complete wine with impressive finesse over an underlying power. Dark cherry and spice, licorice and blood orange. Impressive depth and length, yet a sense of weightlessness. Every sn

Willi Schaefer Graacher Feinherb Riesling 2019

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

From Himmelreich. After some air, delicate notes of green apple, grapefruit, lime and white peach kick in and add to the overall feel of freshness and tightness. Superbly balanced on the palate, where some creamy and lightly fruity elements are superbly wrapped into zest and spices. It leaves a dry-tasting rather than fully off-dry feel in the magnificently long, pure and vibrating finish. This great example of a light-footed, just off-dry wine has depth and concentration. This great success

"AP: 08 21. The 2020er Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett was made from fruit picked at 80° Oechsle on 50-year-old vines and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (45 g/l). It offers a gorgeous nose made of white peach, herbs, and fine spices. The wine feels slightly sweet on the palate at first before a great feel of citrusy zest lifts up the flavors in the finish. The aftertaste is simply stunning, being at the same time light-footed, gorgeously racy, mouthwatering,

Domaine Roland Lavantureux Petit Chablis 2020

Chardonnay | France, Burgundy

“Here is the only wine that with 100% stainless-steel for all vinification and elevage. All from Lignorelles. That’s a very friendly nose – slightly round and faintly caramel despite tank elevage – an inviting sweetness. A little touch of green in the flavours but also lots of energy and citrus bitters. Very engaging, tasty wine. Long too.” Bill Nanson

Tapanappa Tiers Vineyard 1.5m Chardonnay 2022

Chardonnay | Picadilly Valley, Australia

The build in intensity of this very complete wine is clear. Yes the acid is there, it has the depth and length to hold it. The mid-palate weight is exceptional and oak use (⅓ new) refined, layered and harmonious. Perfumed with white flowers, a little baking spice crème pat. Super citrus, white grapefruit and stunning intense lime. Tasting the 3 side by side as a great way to explore depth, length and shape of fruit. The separator from so many Chardonnays on the market is the texture,

Borgogno Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

Great drinking here, fine, long, even, and harmonious. Beautifully weighted and long. The texture and level of development have this looking like a very complete wine! Cherry, almond, spice, plenty of fragrance here, liquorice root, and a little new leather. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and lively, pops with red fruit and supple dusty tannin, a little rose oil in the mix, and a ferrous/stony finish of quiet succulence and excellent length. Classic.  Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 93+ Point

A.Rodda ‘Smiths’ Beechworth Chardonnay 2022

Chardonnay | Victoria, Australia

When I first came across Adrian's wines, tasting a line of OK white Burgundy they highlighted just how far Australian Chardonnay has come in the last 30 years. They're superb wines. The Smith's has a lovely generous core of fruit. Balanced by a juicy line of acid. Fine texture, so pure, long and delicious. Still very youthful. A year or two in bottle will do wonders. A nice little bit of funk layers in, feels a little like a pillow for your tongue! The flavours build after you've swallowed it

A.Rodda ‘Willow Lake’ Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2022

Chardonnay | Yarra Valley, Australia

The Willow Lake has excellent depth and length, with the acid to match the fruit intensity. It needs the most time to resolve of Adrian's 3 Chardonnays. When it does it is going to be freaky good. Australian Chardonnay just keeps getting better and better. Last year I was tasting a line of OK white Burgundy then moved onto A.Rodda's Chardonnays & BOOM! They're superb wines. Vietti ‘Perbacco’ Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

Galloni's interpretation intrigues. The knowledge of the Monforte component in the blend partially explains the bold nature of the tannins. I suspect there are pressings from the Cru Barolos in here. It will require a little patience to unfurl, relax and show its full potential. All of the components are there. Time will see them dial into the right levels, the superb core of fruit develop and the tannins soften. Aromas of grape marc, earthiness, and a little spice wraps dark & brood

Gini Soave ‘La Froscà’ 2015

Garganega | Veneto, Italy

A more typical Soave style than the Salvarenza, beautifully built on a frame of quality fruit. Pear and citrus are cleansed by a very typical and lovely silvery line of bitterness. Long with a lovely mid-palate. A great mid-palate is a sign of a good wine!

Pentecostés Varietales 2022

White Blend | Spain, Condado do Tea

Great drinking to be had here! Complexed by savoury and earthy layers with a little baking spice & hint of soft green herb. Textural with fine phenolics adding a caressing flow countered by a chalky play. Loads of fun. Laced with an elegant background funk over a delicate, transparent fruit core of depth & length. Thirst quenching, super fine acid. The slightly warmer climate of Condado do Tea allows plantings of varieties other than Albariño to thrive. Varietales is a b

Base 2019, this is fun! Lovely set of flavours with an entrancing perfume. Crisp with cut. 3 years on lees disgorged November 2022 with a 2g/l. 12 months on it’s in a great place. Layered, with a finely textured mousse. Time in bottle and glass sees it resolved and out to play. Excellent mid-palate weight. Full of interest and intrigue with all of the development and textural refinement you would expect from a decent bottle of champagne at half the price! 60% Auxerrois, 20% Pinot Blanc an

Looking good! Fresh, style with a nice phenolic grip and cleansing astringency with crunchy mineral acid. Spiced pear and quince with citrus rind and fresh marmalade are balanced by silvery almond lining. Building generosity in the glass. Give this a year in bottle to settle a little and drink over 5 years.

Cascina Roccalini Langhe Nebbiolo 2021

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

When a young winery pop's up a little leg work is required to suss them out. Obviously, the most important thing is what's in the glass. Let's add the other bits of the equation though. The vineyards are right next to Olek Bondonio's joint, they used to supply their Neb to Dante Scaglione at Bruno Giacosa for ten years, and Dante helped them start their own venture. BOOM! Back to the vino. The starting point of their 3 wine range. Young vine Neb, destined to become Barbaresco when the vineyar
