Excellent density, line and length with chalky, mineral ,saline acid and succulent fruit. Serious mid-palate depth. Calm and patient winemaking showing. After 4 hours in the glass only a month after bottling, it starts to reveal itself. White flowers and that trademark lick of reduction wrap a core of fruit that shows depth only achieved with vine age. Let alone a 30% crop reduction. Excellent flow.

Sourced from John and Josie D’Aloisio’s vineyard located high up on the hill above the township of Seville. The I10V1 clone Chardonnay was planted in 1991 on its own roots (non-grafted) and is grown on the stunningly rich red volcanic soils this subregion of the Yarra Valley is famous for. 6 months on lees.
Tasting Notes
Starts off a little restrained on the nose with gentle fragrance of green apples, pear and citrus flowers. With air, the wine becomes alive showing more almond butter, smoke, mineral-like aromas and a hint of fennel.
On the palate, this wine has a huge amount of coiled up energy with zesty citrus fruit flavours, baked apple and vanilla, and cinnamon spice. What’s most special about this wine is its length. Electric like acidity drives all the flavours and it finishes with a nutty smokiness that lasts for a good deal of time. This will cellar for at least 8+ years.
“I started Dappled in 2009 with a view to make high quality, unadulterated wines from special patches of dirt at realistic prices. I make these wines first and foremost for my family and friends, so a hand-crafted, minimal intervention philosophy just makes perfect sense to me.”

“Coming from the duplex soils (red volcanic and mud stone loams) of Macclesfield this was the ideal site for the season. Dijon clone 76’ reacted well to the cooler weather on this site and resulted in a detailed and generous fruit.”
Dappled makes wine in Victoria with fruit coming from vineyards in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsular.
