Millerandage

At the end of the video there is a fascinating tasting of Olivier Leflaives village whites from Chassagne, Mersault, and, Puligny exploring the differences between the three.

Millerandage or Chicken and Hen refers to differences in the size of berries in a bunch, with some normal sized berried and others very small. The smaller berries tend to have high levels of acid increasing the acidity of the end wine. Millerandage is more prominent in some varieties and clones than others. It is often caused by poor weather condition, cold and rain, during flower reducing the effectiveness of flower fertilisation. The number of seed in a berry impacts the amount of natural growth hormones that or produced in the individual berries, the fewer the seeds the less growth hormone and the small the berry.

Vajra Barolo ‘Albe’ 2016

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo (sub-region)

If you were to consider the entire portfolio of wines made in the Barolo appellation, this wine always stands in its own little corner. Albe is a brand on its own, and it represents one of the most versatile, accessible and well-priced Baroli to emerge from the appellation. The G.D. Vajra 2016 Barolo Albe sets off on the right foot, offering forthcoming intensity with forest fruit, wild cherry, crushed stone and blue flowers. Egly easily sits in my list of top 5 Champagne Houses The top end of the Champgne spectrum is often perceived (due to a lot of marketing) to be the Super Cuvées like Dom Perignon and Krug. Don’t get me wrong these are great wines. Their vineyards are immaculate, the fruit comes in with so much intensity you could happily drink the fini

Clos de Tart 1er Cru ‘La Forge de Tart’ 2019

Pinot Noir | Morey-Saint-Denis, France

“This comes from the section known as La Forge, plus a young vine planting from 2011, and “Ballonge 2” where the plant selection could be better – it will be top-grafted shortly. One third whole bunch in the Ballonge component makes about 15% in all. This is a glowing purple colour, without the black. A light reduction on the nose which later shows as toasty barrel. Very complete, sensual, with good unforced acidity, more red fruit than black. Still a certain masculinity. Surprising leng

Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette 'Vielles Vignes Sable' MAGNUM 2022
Ridiculous Yields!
I haven't had a chance to taste these and reviews aren't out yet. Given the consistency and the comments on the vintage below from Bouland and Morris they're just a no brainer. One of the wineries I buy from each year without hesitation. Expect them to have an extra degree of sophistication compared with other recent releases. Wine specific importer notes below. Even Bouland himself struggled to find fault in his wines from what is an outstanding vintage for Beaujolais. “I’m not co
