Champagne

Blend

The blend or cuvée refers to the general blend of a champagne. This can be a blend of varieties, a blend of vintages (non-vintage or close vintage), a blend of sites or villages, or even a combination of the three.

The traditional champagne mantra is that blending is all important, however we are starting to see increased promotion of single village and lieux dits wines as well as more varietal champagnes.

Explore our other Champagnes: the Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot & Meunier, Blanc de Blancs made from 100% Chardonnay, Rosé wines, and 100% Meuniers!

There's a lot to enjoy now and it'll be hard to keep your hands off it! Excellent, tension, playful, with personality. Plenty going on layered very complex. The quality of fruit is clear, wonderful depth and length.  A little edge of honey development. Baking spice crème pâtissière layer in. The balance of the 3 varieties makes for a very complete wine. All showing their form and making for a wine greater than the sum of its parts. My preference for fizz with a little development will be ric

Champagne Vincent Brochet Extra Brut (Base 2015) NV

Blend | Montagne de Reims, France

Fresh & delicious with energy, it's vital, alive! This is excellent. Fresh & delicious with energy, it's vital, alive. The blend makes for a Pinot heart shape with a Chardonnay tail giving it length. At 3g/l the fruit quality is shining through. Depth and length, fresh red fruits with a little citrus underneath. Acid balance on the money. Excellent expression. Just the right amount of grip. Ruby grapefruit, pith. Great fizz.

JM Sélèque Solessence Nature (2015) NV

Champagne | France, Champagne

Brut Nature wines by default have nothing to hide behind so the fruit has to do the talking ... JM's is positively SHOUTING! Excellent purity. Singular, refined. Superb love the line and length with excellent harmony. Pithy, layered, red berries. Excellent secondary development. Although the call is that this is the standard Solessence with no dose, it clearly is not. For a start it's the base vintage is 4 years older, & it has been disgorged for almost 2 years. I can't understate just how m

The perfect introduction to Pouillon's wines, yet, far from an entry level. The gives you a peak into just how much personality and vitality his wines have. Blend | Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay-Val-d'Or

The perfect introduction to Pouillon's wines, yet, far from an entry level. The gives you a peak into just how much personality and vitality his wines have. In its youth, March 2023, it needs a little warmth and air to coax out the fruit. Patience, 2-3 years will be well rewarded! Balancing a hint of oxidative character with delicious fruit with great length and depth. The Grande Vallée (previously labeled the Réserve) represents a little splash of fruit across most of Pouillon's holdings.

Only the 3rd release of this exception Brut Nature Collaboration with Phillipe Starck & it's a cracker! When you have no sugar in the Liqueur d'Expedition, no sugar added to the wine, there is no-where to hide. The fruit quality and winemaking must be impeccable. Egly-Ouriet ‘Les Prémices’ Base 18 NV

Blend | France, Champagne

Egly easily sits in my list of top 5 Champagne Houses The current release is the first blend to include three vintages and the wine is all the better for it. The dosage for this release was just two grams per litre. We really love this wine and the contrast it offers from the rest of the range. It’s a super mineral, pure fruit wine with a weight and personality that reminds us of the great Jérôme Prévost (perhaps it’s the Meunier influence). Regardless, expect wonderful precision, the del

Fruit from 'Les Crayères' makes its way into some of Champagnes very best wines. It's the source of Egly-Ouriets Blanc de Noir! A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir this year, Marguet's 2015 Ambonnay Grand Cru Les Crayères is showing especially well, mingling aromas of pear and waxy citrus rind with notions of vanilla pod and toasted almonds.
