'The 2019 Barolo Gramolere (with 7,000 bottles made) shows a slightly sweeter and riper fruit profile. This wine comes from the village of Monforte d'Alba, which is known for more structured and powerful wines compared to Verduno (where this winery is based), which offers lighter, more floral wines instead. Gramolere shows dark fruit, plum and spice, but it also has a pretty mineral note of rust or iron. However, within this portfolio, this wine may well deliver the longest drinking window.' Dri

Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Auslese #11 2019

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

Initially reductive notes of smoke and aniseed herbs, then pear, honeyed yellow peach, spices, fresh herbs, violet and bergamot join the party. Develops gorgeous playful sweetness on the light-footed and delicately zesty palate, and leaves gorgeously direct flavours of fruit basket and candied grapefruit in the finish. This joyful and fruit-driven auslese will be irresistible at maturity.  Mosel Fine Wines

Cogno Barolo ‘Ravera’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Novello, Italy

"These vineyards represent the classic side of our production. They make elegant, smooth, and fresh wines with a fine aroma." Valter Fissore "The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a beautiful, precise wine. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the 2017 terrific energy that carries all the way through to the finish. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice all open with a bit of coaxing. This is very nicely done." Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Domaine Hubert Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Regnard’ 2019

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

"Offering up notes of plums, orange rind, spices and grilled meats, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Regnard (négoce) is medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, with lively acids and a bright, enveloping core of fruit. This has turned out very nicely." William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Artuke ‘La Condenada’ Rioja 2021

Red Blend | Spain, Alavesa

Trying ‘La Conenada’s’ brother 'El Escolladero'  along with a few other wines from the Artuke range was enough to convince me to grab a couple of boxes. Well it's arrived, and I can see why it is one of the Artuke's two crown jewels! The palate has exceptional shape and flow, yes it is precise! The acid ~ tannin ~ fruit ~ alcohol complex sits in perfect harmony. As with the El Escolladero there is just a little edge of grip to the mouthfeel, again in a cleansing positive way. Opening

Massolino “Parussi” Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Castiglione Falletto

Massolino’s Castiglione Falletto Parussi tannins take longer to resolve than Parafada. Bordering both core soil types. Quite dense and layered. Bright red fruit with darker macerative pops. Fresh acid long. Will resolve beautifully in time.

Massolino “Parafada” Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Bolder darker brooding short time on skins as per Margheria. Lovely length depth even powerful long fine tannins. Very sophisticated even with it’s richness. Wonderful. Kept freshness and elegance. Excellent elegance.  Definitely resolved and openned from Galloni's comments much earlier in its life.

Massolino “Margheria” Barolo 2017

Nebbiolo | Serralunga d'Alba, Italy

"The 2017 Barolo Margheria is a compelling, multi-faceted Barolo loaded with personality. Sage, mint, lavender, spice, iron and red/purplish berry fruit grace this firm, classically built Barolo. This translucent, taut Barolo has so much to offer, but it also needs time to soften. Readers will find a terrific example of Margheria." Antonio Galloni

The Super Stars!

Giovanni Sordo Barolo ‘Villero’ 2013

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barolo

I haven't tried the 2013. If the 2015 is anything to go by this will be stunning! The most ‘Burgundian’ of these 8 cru, shimmering and transparent, signalling the elegance and finesse to unfold. A beautiful and intriguing wine with those Castiglione complexities of cranberry, strawberry, cherry-skin, dried flowers and herbs. Tannins are beautifully bound with the acid line, the finish becomes seamless and tingling. Worthy of the Villero name. Vietti's is now $900 a bottle! Dense garnet colo

Albino Rocca ‘Angelo’ Barbaresco 2017

Nebbiolo | Barbaresco, Italy

In hommage to Angelo this goes back to his father’s days when blending was the norm. A truly beautiful blend. The gentle fruit handling and longer maceration or lunga macerazione (55 days here) has yielded a lovely perfume, a savoury core of fruit with delicacy and persistence. The tannins are wonderful. There’s a little truffle, a little liquorice, a little of lots of things coming to play. This is a wine worthy of being a hommage! Each parcel is picked separately, 3-4 days apart, and added

"A markedly more restrained nose timidly offers up its array of overtly floral-suffused aromas of citrus zest, apple and mineral reduction. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is both sleeker and more refined if less generously proportioned while exhibiting a lovely minerality on the sneaky long finish. This is classic Chevalières, which is to say a wine of delicacy and finesse." Allen Meadows, Burghound

Domaine Henri Germain Meursault ‘Limozin’ 2018

Chardonnay | Meursault, Burgundy

"A slightly riper nose offers up aromas of white peach, lemongrass, hazelnut and spice hints that are in keeping with the equally ripe, round and nicely rich medium-bodied flavors that aren't quite as refined, all wrapped in a delicious and more complex finish. In a word, excellent." Allen Meadows, Burghound

Rare as Hens' teeth!

Oddero Barolo ‘Rocche di Castiglione’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Castiglione Falletto, Italy

Rocche di Castiglione has to be one of my favourite Crus. The wines have incredible harmony, they are just so complete. I haven't had the chance to try this. I have devoured the 2017 Villero from just around the corner. Given Oddero's consistency through their range I'd say you're in for very safe bet here! The 2017 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a beautiful wine that captures the natural intensity of the year while maintaining the style of the site. Silky aromatic and wonderfully nua

E. Pira (Chiara Boschis) Barolo ‘Mosconi’ 2017

Nebbiolo | Monforte d'Alba, Italy

The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique. Galloni

Aromas of spiced plum, black cherry and a touch of warm earth are trimmed in admirably subtle wood nuances. The super-sleek, intense and wonderfully energetic medium weight flavors possess fine length on the more overtly structured finale. This is both a bigger and more powerful wine than the Teurons that could use better depth but the given that the aging curve of the '19 Mousse should be extended, more complexity should almost certainly develop in due course. 🇮🇹Bravo Isabella!👏🏻
As with the 2015 I found myself not really wanting to write tasting notes simply wanting to devour the glass! Although it was line ball between the 2015 Inferno and Sassella I always lent toward the Sassella as a personal preference. ArPePe have delivered a cracker. Sassella typically produces the most elegant wines of the three communes with Inferno next and Grumello the boldest. The weight of the Sassella is on par with the Inferno this year. This has excellent shape on palate. A nice step
