R.Pouillon Grande Vallée Brut (2018/2019) NV

Blend | Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay-Val-d'Or

The perfect introduction to Pouillon's wines, yet, far from an entry level. The gives you a peak into just how much personality and vitality his wines have. In its youth, March 2023, it needs a little warmth and air to coax out the fruit. Patience, 2-3 years will be well rewarded! Balancing a hint of oxidative character with delicious fruit with great length and depth. The Grande Vallée (previously labeled the Réserve) represents a little splash of fruit across most of Pouillon's holdings.

Joh Jos Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese Riesling 2021

Riesling | Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Germany

Great intensity and transparency! “The 2021er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is really restrained and almost non-saying at this early stage, but already hints at the complexity to come as it reveals after a few minutes very delicate notes of whipped almond cream, lily flowers, vineyard peach, minty herbs, smoke, candied grapefruit, and quite some fine spices. The wine proves creamy yet intense and dynamic on the palate. It proves very focused and already hugely long. This will need quit

Pieropan Soave ‘Calvarino’ MAGNUM 2021

White Blend | Veneto, Italy

The name 'Calvarino' translates to 'small ordeal'. Andrea Pieropan told us it was named after the hill Jesus was crucified on reflecting how difficult the soil is to work and the tortuous path which winds from top to bottom. The 2021 is the 50th Anniversary release & it is an excellent Calvarino. Vibrant and energetic with a perfume of white flowers and an excellent core of fruit. Thirst quenching. Well developed, no puppy fat here. Long and fine with a savoury twist. Chalky with a fine l

Domaine Louis Boillot Gevrey-Chambertin 2017

Pinot Noir | Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy

Cracking example of Gevrey-Chambertin. There’s a theme through Louis Boillot’s wines of harmony, and, delicacy with intensity. Cracking example of Gevrey-Chambertin. There's a theme through Louis Boillot's wines of harmony, and, delicacy with intensity. The old iron fist in the velvet glove. The reduction Meadows noted is all but gone now and the fruit is showing fine form. A lovely shape to the palate with that true to domain plush, supple tannin. A wine of great precision and expression.

Rocche showing the site with faded flowers, a build in tannins here over the Villero adds a significant structural element, the long even shape is present as in past years. Youthful tension and tannins will need time to relax. Wonderful nose of intensity with great depth, rich, brooding, it’s starting to offer quite a lot. Serious with delicacy.  Excellent line, length and balance. Red fruits, chocolate, faded flowers, savoury licks, great drive and persistence. GW: Ripe raspberry, dri

Weinbach Cuvée Colette Riesling 2021

Riesling | France, Alsace

“Stunning nose of yellow peach, pomelo and fresh pineapple that pulls you into this simultaneously ripe and vibrant dry Riesling. The ripe citrus flavors run right through the palate into the long finish that’s so uplifting it makes you feel good to be alive. So polished and precise.” Stuart Pigott, Jamessuckling.com 95 Points

Cappellano Barbera Gabutti 2015

Barbera | Serralunga d'Alba, Barolo

Another great Piemonte vine, another great aspect of the Gabutti vineyards. A classic Barbera, feminine in its generosity and masculine in its posture. It is characterised by a distinctive acidity which sustains softness and fruit, and delivers a vibrating tasting experience until the long finale. The wine gives the impression of partial incompleteness, of continuous change; like all the red wines with strong character it takes its time to unveil its potentiality, character, and pleasures. We ha

Cascina Fontana Barolo 2016

Nebbiolo | La Morra, Italy

Undoubtedly the best Fontana Barolo Classico I’ve had! Brooding yet open - perhaps explained by the mix of Castiglione Falletto (brooding) and La Morra (open) fruit. Undoubtedly the best Fontana Barolo Classico I’ve had. A little sappy, resinous (in a nice way)  layer of tannin combines with ripe even line of nutty tannin, fruit comes, building through the mid palate and lingers. This just needs time. It has that Castiglione Falleto youthful brooding nature to it. Give it a couple of yea

Fèlsina Chianti Classio Riserva DOCG ‘Rancia’ 2017

Sangiovese | Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy

The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is incredibly polished and sophisticated. Silky tannins give the 2017 its racy, sleek personality. Over the last year, the 2017 has really settled into a gorgeous place. There is plenty of vintage 2017 intensity, but Rancia is distinctly medium in body and restrained. The wilder side of Sangiovese, one of the signatures of Rancia and Fèlsina more broadly, tastes a bit baked out. I can't wait to see how the 2017 develops over the coming years and decades.

Antoniolo Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2016

Nebbiolo | Italy, Alto Piemonte

Seriously impressive gear. Antoniolo's 2016's have excellent, long linear shape. Galloni's call on power and intensity is spot on. I'd add grace and poise. Nuanced, complex, and layered. The fruit profile is excellent. This is one of the most exciting Nebbiolos I've had in some time. Given our rotating list of over 300 available Nebbiolos that is no small statement. I could wax lyrical about aromas and flavours, let's just say they are entrancing. The mouthfeel has a vitalising grip that sits

The Girolamo Russo 2020 Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo opens to a hint of salinity or minerality that is specific to this site. Those linear aromas tend to frame a tight core of wild fruit, white cherry, apricot and mountain flowers like blue bonnet or Sicilian ginestra, which grows with yellow blooms on the flanks of the volcano. The wine's interesting saltiness cedes directly to the mouthfeel. The tannins are more prominent in this vintage. You should get very good aging potential from this bottle.

There is beauty here. Richness and solid red mid-palate. Savoury, bloody, there is precision, and more clarity particularly on the finishes. Saline. A hint of musk. Another year or two in bottle should see this in a special place. Blood orange and a little sourness that will pull into line with that year or 2. Hints of pine forest and earthiness. This feels very complete. This wine is part of the growing collection of excellent single-vineyard contrada sites farmed by the talented Giusepp

Vietti ‘Perbacco’ Langhe Nebbiolo MAGNUM 2020

Nebbiolo | Piedmont, Barbaresco

Two of the best value Neb's on the market have to be Vietti's Castiglione Barolo and this wine Vietti's Perbacco! Every year I put away a box of Perbacco Magnums! They make for a wicked party wine! The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is another terrific entry-level wine from Vietti. In this vintage, the Perbacco is especially fine. Sweet dried cherry, herbs, mint, crushed flowers, anise and orange peel grace this striking, alluring Nebbiolo. There's tons of depth and sheer pedigree, things

Domaine Thibert Pouilly-Fuissé ‘Vignes Blanches’ 2019

Chardonnay | Pouilly-Fuisse, Burgundy

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “Less width but still excitement again with a floral touch to the top notes. More mouth-filling more structural, less finesse, more energy, more overt complexity. More exciting wine today – not better than Les Cras – but more my personal style preference. Again, a minimum of excellent...” Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report “This too is markedly reserved but aggressive swirling eventually reveals lemony aromas of pear, apple, white

Chardonnay | Pouilly-Fuisse, Burgundy

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “The last vintage with this name, it will be Vers Cras 1er in 2020 – but the parcels are the same. An exciting nose with some smoky minerality and very slowly more floral too. Wide, mineral, but very mobile and fluid and slowly fading – another completely absorbing wine, faintly but not distractingly sweet. Simply excellent wine...” Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report “Here the nose is also markedly restrained and decidedly cool with

Domaine Thibert Pouilly-Fuissé ‘Menetieres’ 2019

Chardonnay | Pouilly-Fuisse, Burgundy

To be labelled 1er Cru from the 2020 Vintage! “Wow – a special vibration to the aromatic here – the oak not visible, maybe a small accent of aniseed – but the ‘brilliant-est’ of these aromas.
