Description

Stunning. The texture here is divine. Refined with a delicacy to the long seamless line of acid. Superb flavour profile of ripe lemons & citrus oil, white nectarine, a little green apple, light honey, nutty wild ferment / solids with supple creaminess. Such great drinking.

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

“The most layered and complex of the three Chardonnays we make, the ‘Estate’ is a classic example of a robust but beautifully balanced cool climate wine. This wine has all the elements of a great Chardonnay present – fruit, oak, acid, creamy texture and complexity, but no element overpowers the other. A wonderful wine to enjoy now, or watch it grow and develop over the years.”

About Stefano Lubiana

Stefano Lubiana wines was established by Steve and Monique Lubiana in 1990. A proud fifth and sixth generation winegrowing family, Steve was inspired by his family’s background in wine to pursue his own winemaking; his father Mario grew vines and made wine in Souther Australia, and their ancestors in Italy before that.

Leaving the sultry climes of South Australia, Steve and Monique moved to Tasmania in search of a cool-climate region where they could grow and make premium wines, with a particular focuse on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 30 years on, their Stefano Lubiana label has earned a reputation for expressive, high-quality wines cultivated from biodynamically grown vines on their Derwent River estate.

In the video below, Steve speaks to his personal passion for winegrowing and his inspirations and aspirations for the growing family estate.

In the Vineyard

Stefano Luibana are Tasmania’s first and only certified biodynamic vineyard. Steve and Monique first took the decision to use biodynamic methods in 2010.

“This means that our wines are free of all synthetic treatments, additives and pesticides. Instead we travel the alternative path, stepping back in time and using cosmic rhythms to ensure soil regenereation as well as effective vine care through all phases of the year’s seasonal cycles.

These methods enhance our attention to detail in the vineyard and winery, as we’re more alert to the signals of Mother Nature and her messengers. Every season, we’re becoming more attuned to the synergies between our varied soil types, their organisms, the local flora and fauna, and of course our vines.”

In the Winery

As in the vineyard, the focus in the Stefano Lubiana winery is on traditional and environmentally sensitive practices. Their winemaking approach can be described as minimal intervention, with innovative use of barrels, whole-bunch fermentation and wild yeasts used to hand craft a distinctive range of wines.

“With most of our 25ha estate planted to the two great Burgundian varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it’s no secret that with meticulous vineyard craftsmanship and sympathetic and thoughtful winemaking, our wines have earned a reputation as some of most revered and desirable in Australia.

Indeed, the fact that our Pinot Noirs have won Best Biodynamic Wine in the World at the prestigious London International Wine Challenge on three separate occasions is testament to the special site of which we’re the lucky caretakers, and the expressions of purity that we’re able to offer from Tasmania to family tables around the world.”

Bringing white peach, pear, and a smear of wild honey (plus that rarest of its type, calm acidity) into a coherent whole speaks of the winemaker’s skill and quality of the fruit with equal clarity. This is a gem; no wonder much of its wine consumed on the island. 13% alc, screwcap.
