Description

Made from Nerello Mascelese, some call it the Barolo of the South, others a cross between Pinot & Nebbiolo. I prefer to say it is itself & delicious. The vineyards of Etna have undergone a major renaissance in the last couple of decades. We’ve been lucky to get the 2007 direct from the cellars of the winery.

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

2007 represents the last year that the Contrade (single vineyards) were blended into the standard Passopisciaro wine. In following years they were vinified and bottled separately.

These wines are spectacularly, loaded with personality, a true expression of extreme sites, they have an amazing perfume and despite their almost translucent colour have incredible depth and length of flavour. There’s a real tension between tannins that can be very supple yet a little edgy. They are always layered with so many flavours that it’s had to pull them apart. My tip, don’t, harmony shound just be enjoyed without over thinking it!

Lower elevation builds more generosity into Porcaria. Such wonderful texture! More immediate generosity from Porcaria, a sub-contrada of Feudo di Mezzo. A little savoury, with a full round aroma profile. Rich and round on the palate with excellent acid, zippy and on the borderline of sour, countered by ripe, spiced fruit. Time will undoubtedly see the acid resolve. Excellent red and darker fruit with baking spice and slatey grip of tannin. Herbal and fine. Very good. NOTE: I tasted these 12

Meaning New Lava Flow it's young soils have not broken down to release as much nutrient as the olds flows. Treating the vines mean and keeping them lean! Such an interesting comparison in flavour profile with the Guardiola. Brooding, there’s something inviting and seductive about it.It has an incredible amount to offer. Beautifully balanaced. To taste wine from 140 year old vines that has not been influenced by growing on a rootstock is becoming a rare thing at a global level. Terre Nere 'Dagala di Bocca D'Orzo' Rosso D.O.C. 2021
This entire Contrada, Bocca d’Orzo, was buried in the lava flow of 1981, bar this tiny ‘dagala’ or island of intact 70-year-old vines. Marco negotiated and purchased this tiny 0.75 hectare plot and produced his first vintage from it in 2019. Only 800 bottles are produced each year.
