Description

Devoured the 09 'Le Vigne' in Nov 17 & 2013 Barbera last night! The 'Le Vigne' this is superb drinking and will continue to be so for another 5-10 years. Singing with incredible harmony and generosity. Vibrant, finely textured, developing beautiful truffles, earthiness. The scent is simply intoxicating, calling out DRINK ME, DRINK ME! That we did. A great example of a very sophisticated Barolo. The Barbera, just as good Barbera should be, this baby has a rich core of fruit moderated by juicy acid that keeps your palate fresh and gagging for more! The quality of this wine when I first tasted it was an indicator of just how good the 2013 Barolo were going to be. Balanced, intense, excellent quality of tannin. Now, with a couple more years of age on it's settled into it's skin, has integrated and is showing beautifully.

Shipped from the winery in refrigerated containers & stored in a climate controlled warehouse.

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

Luciano Sandrone Barolo ‘Le Vigne’ 2009

A blend of several small parcels of vines from a number of communes, Le Vigne is Luciano Sandrone’s ode to “traditional” or blended Barolo. All of the sites that go into Le Vigne are markedly different in terms of altitude, soil and exposure and together they help provide a broad overview of Barolo in a given year. The fruit comes from four vineyards; Ceretta, Conterni, Merli and Vignane, and future vintages will include some fruit from Baudana, in Serralunga. These four sites are all markedly different in terms of altitude, soil and exposure and together they provide a general snapshot of Barolo in a given year. The 2009 is a textural expression of Le Vigne with marvellous aromatics and layers of texture. The high altitude freshness and tannins, predominantly from the Ceretta and Conterni sites, have integrated beautifully. All the elements for great Barolo are here. Such is the quality of this Barolo today that it truly rivals this producer’s legendary Cannubi Boschis. The two wines offer very different and equally valid expressions of Barolo. Regardless, this is simply a great Le Vigne. Regarding the winemaking, the wild yeast fermentation commenced in tank before the malo and aging in mostly used 500 litre French oak casks. The maturation in cask lasted 26 months, followed by 18 months bottle aging before release (ditto for the Cannubi Boschis).

Luciano Sandrone Barbera 2013

Recently I published an article about Barolo, exploring how I stay ahead of the curve, getting an early read on a Vintage by trying Langhe Reds, Barbera and Dolcetto that are released before the Barolo. Sandrone’s 2013 Barbera was a prime example of doing this. It was looking bang on 2 years ago and it’s looking even better now! Sandrone’s Barbera is just as good Barbera should be, this baby has a rich core of fruit moderated by juicy acid that keeps your palate fresh and gagging for more! The quality of this wine when I first tasted it was an indicator of just how good the 2013 Barolo were going to be. Balanced, intense, excellent quality of tannin. Now, with a couple more years of age on it’s settled into it’s skin, has integrated and is showing beautifully.

Barolo 'Le Vigne' 2009 - "The 2009 Barolo Le Vigne shows class and pedigree with bright fruit tones carefully wrapped within the wine's elegant texture. The purity and the intensity of the wine are exceptional, especially when compared to other Barolos from this vintage. The bouquet is polished and long, with pristine accents of spice, licorice and anise seed. Made with fruit sourced from various parcels, this wine speaks with a strong and confident tone. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028."

Barolo 'Le Vigne' 2009 - "This is a stunning wine with intense floral scents of iris, violet and rose layered with hints of mint and coffee. The palate is rich and vibrant, with a core of black cherry wrapped in cinnamon and spice. This is superbly balanced, elegant and structured. Enjoyable now, this will also age well."

Barolo 'Le Vigne' 2009 - "Beautiful aromas of strawberries and cherries with hints of flowers follow through to a full body and ultra-fine tannins. Long and flavorful finish. This needs another two or three years to soften the tannins and come together. Excellent 2009."
