Lovely purity here! Pear and maple with a little baking spice on an excellent chalky acid base!

Description

Pear and maple with a little baking spice on an excellent chalky acid base lovely. Nicely weighted refreshing delicious drinks. Playfull layer of phenolics with a slight pithy finish followed by persisting fruit.

With Francesco Versio & Matt Large helping out the 2019 has by all account stepping up leap and bounds with a focus on pressing and careful handling. Lovely purity here!

This would make for a great side by side comparison with Vietti’s Arneis.

🔥 Hot Tip – Don’t drink it too cold 12-14°C will allow it to shine!

Why is this Wine so Yummy?

About Cascina Galarin

The cellar of Cascina Galarin was built in the 1700s, and when it came time to construct the family home, they decided to add an extra touch to the solid wood front door – a carving of a rooster. The door still exists, and it is from here that the name and logo of the winery, Galarin, was drawn. Historically, the family grew grapes and sold them off to other wineries. Towards the end of the 80s, Giuseppe Carosso realised the importance of the growing process and meticulously tended to their vineyards. This extra attention began to show in the quality of the grapes, and Giuseppe started to make and bottle wine under the family label. Today, Giuseppe is joined by his two sons, Marco and Giovanni, who wholly appreciate the nuances in soil, weather, aspect, topography and their effect on each vine. Organic practices are employed throughout, and the deep roots of old vines add natural stability and resistance to disease, as well as providing naturally low yields. Complementary to this is their belief in the minimal use of sulphur in the winemaking process and bottling during the days of a waning moon. Now under the management of winemaking authority Francesco Versio, great care is given to each stage of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the bottle. The resulting wines are clear and fruit-pure expressions of their grape varieties.

In the Vineyard

RESPECT FOR NATURE

We don’t use herbicides nor pesticides in our vineyards or hazelnut groves. In some vineyards, we don’t mow the grass between vines. We believe in letting the vines exist with other naturally occurring plants in harmony, producing another interesting variable to the wines we produce.

OLD VINES

The deep roots of old vines not only add a stability and resistance to disease and weather, but also an increased uptake of minerals and extractions from the soil. We normally don’t “green harvest”, believing the plant will know what to produce and how much to produce to give the best fruit for making our wines. Some seasons see a vine producing only one grape. We allow nature to dictate the end product from which we then apply our traditions and style to make the best wine we can.

In the Winery

Cascina Galarin’s wines are made under the watchful eye of the incredibly busy Francesco Versio (also of Luigi Oddero, and making wine under his own label). Australia’s Matt Large has been helping out at Cascina Galarin too.

The grapes are selected by hand – They are crushed, pressed and naturally clarified – Alcoholic fermentation is made in stainless steel autoclave at low temperature (14 / 16°C) for almost a month – Wine is kept in contact with his fermentation lees until bottling, with a weekly batonnage.
